چکیده

Using solid phase extraction (SPE) combined with HPLCfluorescence/photodiode array (PDA) detection several low molecular-weight alkylamines (including ethylamine and propylamine) have been detected in the gas-phase, released during the oxidative/thermal degradation of monoethanolamine (MEA), an amine-based postcombustion CO2 capture solvent. In this study, a 30 wt% aqueous MEA solution was degraded in the presence of a 13% CO2, 10% O2, 77% N2 gas stream, and temperature of 60°C, over a period of 124 hours. Mild carbon-steel metal shavings were added to the aqueous amine solution to catalyse degradation and simulate conditions similar to that found under typical operating conditions of an amine-based PCC plant. Samples of the exhaust gas were collected at regular intervals (every 4-6 hours), by drawing a portion of the exhaust gas stream into a XAD-7 sorbent cartridge coated in 10% NBD-Cl by weight. Samples were collected over a 50 min period, desorbed, and analysed for the presence of low molecular-weight alkylamines.

Optimal conception of a post-combustion CO2 capture unit with assessment of solvent degradation

The combination of growing energy demand and environmental concerns has made the development of CO2 capture and storage technologies a necessity for the near-future energy mix. Post-combustion CO2 capture is one of the most mature technologies for reducing CO2 emissions in power plants. As a next step for the technology development, large-scale demonstration capture plants have to be implemente...

Experimental Studies of CO2 Capturing from the Flue Gases

CO2 emissions from combustion flue gases have turned into a major factor in global warming. Post-combustion carbon capture (PCC) from industrial utility flue gases by reactive absorption can substantially reduce the emissions of the greenhouse gas CO2. To test a new solvent (AIT600) for this purpose, a small pilot plant was used. This paper presents the results of studies ...

A Physical Absorption Assessment of a New Alternative Solvent for Carbon Capture

The reliance of the world economies on the use of fossil fuels (i.e. coal, natural gas and oil) as primary source of energy, have contributes to the high emission of CO2 in atmosphere. One of the promising way to mitigate the CO2 emission is by implemented Post Combustion Carbon Capture (PCCC) through absorption process. PCCC by amines based solvent is a method to remove the carbon dioxide from...

Flue gas treatment for CO2 capture

This report is in two sections: the first describes the flue gas and its treatment in post-combustion capture and the second covers the flue gas in oxyfuel combustion capture. The main components of the flue gas in pulverised coal combustion for postcombustion capture are CO2, N2, O2 and H2O, and air pollutants such as SOx, NOx, particulates, HCl, HF, mercury as well as other contaminants. The ...
